Of possible interest to Stu. The Athletic is conducting its own poll for the new nickname for the Cleveland baseball team. They culled the top 16 from hundreds of suggestions and had a bracket-type vote. The final two are Guardians and Commodores, each of which is explained in the article as having historic significance to the city. FWIW, I like the Blues or Blue Sox, which made the semifinals but didn't advance. If you are a subscriber, it's a fun article, but as far as I know, it has nothing to do with the final decision.

Haven't heard any that I like yet. Would be nice if it had a local flavor.

Yeah, I actually like the Spiders better than some cuz it does reflect their history...but I also read that "Spiders" is not getting much traction.

    Spiders is too creepy!

What are they going to go with for the season, The Cleveland Baseball Club just like Washington did in the NFL?

Good article on Zack Greinke in today's chronicle. He's lamenting that the move to the AL will likely mean he won't hit his career goal of being a 10/10 pitcher! That is 10 homeruns and 10 stolen bases, right now he has 9/9. He's also 312 strikeouts from 3,000. He says that while this is the last year of his contract he's not ready to retire wants to pitch beyond this year. Goal is 200 innings!

Greinke 'should be pretty good' entering last year of Astros contract

I don't recognize a single player on the Rockies roster. They're in serious trouble playing in a division where everybody else in loaded...

MLB is delaying the opening of the Minor Leagues a month. Minor leaguers didn't get to play at all last season, and now are getting a shorter season again. I imagine that development of a lot of young players is being negatively impacted.

We are the oldest and largest sponsor of the Jersey Shore Blueclaws, Single A affiliate of the Phillies. We met with them yesterday and were told that Opening Day for them is May 4.

Astros top pitching prospect, Forrest Whitely, had another setback and might need Tommy John surgery. He's had one problem after another since he was drafted and had so much promise, some of them self inflicted like suspension for a drug violation. It seems like he might never reach that potential.
