Brian Kelly reportedly to Zoom interview the Cincinnati DCoord Marcus Freeman, who is also going to be interviewed by Eddie O at LSU.
He was with his family on vacation in California and is returning to AA today. Several “insiders” report he is supposed to sign the extension this week but the Chargers opening might prove interesting.
I read that 2 of the people under consideration for Sark's replacement are Adam Gase who was fired by the Jets, and Bill O'Brien who was fired by the Texans. I'll believe it when I see it, Saban is too smart to bring in either of those guys.
Yes I think he will. To be honest, I'm kind of hoping he takes Golding. With the talent we have our defense should have been better.
Rumors are that he might be brining a couple of offensive coaches and an analyst. Now I'm not sure why those guys would leave Alabama unless they were going from say OL coach to OL Coach/OCoord or something like that, of course an analyst who gets back on the field would have motivation to leave. But I can't imagine Alabama isn't paying top dollar for it's asst and they have a steady situation to work with, leaving for Texas is a risk. I haven't heard Goldings name assoc with DCoord, but the OL coach's name has come up. A coach from Ole Miss who is a former Texas player is reportedly coming, that makes sense. The Alabama guys don't.
There was a short article in today's Chronicle about Dan Mullen wanting out at Fla and move to the NFL. I'm still pretty shocked. If he actually does interview for an NFL job, I wonder if Fla would terminate him?
Yeah, the analyst positions are ripe for the picking. Some of them, I think, are deals for Alabama because they are collecting big paychecks from previous jobs, but the opportunity to get back on the sidelines has to be enticing. I don't know what kind of head coach Sarkisian is, but I would guess that it may not be easy to work for Saban. He seems to be such a perfectionist and that might motivate some to leave.
Lots of smoke around Mullen. Not sure what to make of that but if I was a Gator fan I'd sure want him to come out and make a statement. The longer it goes like this... not good.
After the 2012 Irish were beat down by ND, Kelly was incognito and everybody knew he was talking to the NFL, turns out it was the Eagles. He wanted to move to the NFL. A lot of people got pissed at that and the base assumption that was when he should have been focusing entirely on Alabama he was dreaming and scheming of a way to move to the NFL. It was more than a week before he confirmed that he would be returning to ND, that didn't sit well with the fans. If I were a Gator fan, as Scott has said, hear from Mullen about it's all just media driven and he's looking forward to coaching a long time at Florida ...or something like that. Granted after saying that he could still take an NFL job. But if I'm the Fla AD and he goes on an interview I'd fire his ass.
I see former Michigan DCoord, Don Brown, has landed that same job with Arizona. He's 65 so it's a nice start on relocation to a sunny climate for retirement! Lots of rumors regarding the Texas staff, but only Blake Gideon a former player who was at Ole Miss is confirmed to be on Sark's new staff joining one holdover from Tom Herman in RB coach Stan Drayton. He is already making recruiting calls and I imagine things will move fast and furious after the Nat'l Championship game.
Harsin filling out staff at Auburn with the hiring of Mike Bobo as OCoord and Derick Mason as the DCoord.
Big rumor on the Gator boards is that Charlie Strong is coming bacd as a defensive coach. Most hoping he replaces Grantham as DC. Always liked Charlie and hope he is coming back in some capacity.
As a DCoord Charlie Strong has a solid resume', would make a great addition to the Fla Staff. Any word on what is in the future for Dan Mullen? Has he made any statements about the rumors of him being unhappy at UF and looking to move to the NFL?
It is reported to be a 50% cut when all added benefits in the old contract are tacked on to the base salary. The incentives in the new contract if met would bump up his salary to 8M. The buyout in the new contract is supposed to be significantly lower.
Contract signed. With the lower buyout, H’s seat is still very hot but I suspect the financial hit the university took from Covid made them reluctant to pay out the large buyout in the original contract and hire a new coach. Hard to see any prominent asst coach being inclined to come to M with this level of uncertainty swirling around the program. Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh signs five-year contract
Sounds like both sides won in my opinion Bobda. This could be a turning point for Coach Harbaugh. This would hopefully strenthen the rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State, with a win by the Wolverines in the next couple seasons?
