Wow...week 10. Doesn't seem like it. Top 10. 1. Clemson at Notre Dame ..Game of the Year in the ACC. Clemson favored even without Lawrence. Clemson just has a better roster than the Irish. We're a good football team but they have more talent and Dabo is an elite coach and has a great staff. So not a surprise to me, the game for the Irish revolves around can Ian Book have the game of his life and keep us in the game till late. Clemson even with the young QB is still a loaded offense and that young QB is like Trevor was 2 years ago, extremely talented. 2. Alabama - bye 3. Ohio State v Rutgers ...Buckeyes can name the score here. 4. Notre Dame v Clemson 5. Georgia v Fla ...Dawgs better find some offense, as good as their defense is they will not hold the Gators to under 30 points. They only scored 14 vs Kentucky. Winner is likely the SEC Champ. 6. Cincinnati vs Houston ..Bearcats have become the top Group of 5 team. The little I have seen of them, they are a really good football team. Houston is an OK football team. But I wouldn't rank them ahead of Fla or A&M. 7. Texas A&M at So.Carolina. Aggies are on a roll, getting good QB play from Kellen Mond and running the ball well. They should handle So.Carolina, road game or not. 8. Fla v Georgia. If the Gators play well on offense, they will score against a good Georgia defense that lost one of it's top DB's to a motorcycle injury after the game. Dawgs just have not been very good on offense, and while I know people say the Fla defense is not a strength, it's likely to be better than Kentucky. 9. BYU at Boise State. This is a big game for both teams, BYU has already played a lot of games, 7, this will be Boise State's 3rd game. That has to make a difference. BYU QB Zach Wilson is getting some Heisman hype, he has great numbers but the BYU schedule hasn't been really challenging so those numbers are a little suspect. Will they hold up on the Blue Carpet? (Friday Night Game) 10. Miami at NC State. Hurricanes seem to be recovering from the trauma of the beat down that Clemson put on them. NC State having a good season, should be a challenge for the Hurricanes. (Friday Night Game) Other games...lots of good ones. The Pac 12 is back in play this weekend. Michigan at Indiana ...IU is ranked higher by a lot, when has that ever happened that UM traveled to Bloomington to face a 1)ranked IU squad and 2) one that is ranked higher than them...bet it might not have ever happened. Michigan needs a bounce back win in the worst way. Ariz State at USC ...so the thing about this game is that it will kick off at 9AM in LA. How weird is that. USC is ranked and has a great young QB, and as always a ton of talent, esp skill position. Is this the beginning of the end for Clay Helton? West Virginia at Texas ...do or die for both squads. I do believe Texas is getting ready to go on a run to the end of the season. Loss here for either ends any hope of getting to the Big 12 Championship game. Neb at Northwestern ... Wildcats are 2-0 now after the win vs Iowa. Huskers just wan to play somebody! Don't know what to expect here. Purdue at Wisconsin ...will this game be played? Wisconsin has at least 16 players in the quarantine. So this won't be the same squad that looked so good vs Illinois. Oklahoma State at KSU ...another Big 12 must win for both teams. Right now OSU only has the 1 conf loss, as does KSU. neither can really afford that 2nd loss. Baylor at Iowa State...Iowa State another 1 loss B12 team that can't really afford that 2nd loss, not likely to get it here, they have a RB named Breece Hall who is one of the top RB in the nation. A lot of people like ISU QB Brock Purdy as well. Stanford at Oregon ...Oregon is replacing Justin Herbert at QB, but supposed to be the top team in the Pac 12, Stanford is always tough even when they aren't good. They had a lot of players enter the transfer portal after last season. I thought maybe that meant players were unhappy. Turns out most of them graduated and getting into Stanford's grad schools is not automatic for football players like it is most places.
Saturday is opening day of the season... so I'll miss all of this ball. Sadly my spot is down in a valley, and even my phone won't work. Will depend on you guys to recap it all when I get back in.
Wisconsin cancelled their game with Purdue. This puts them in jeopardy for not playing enough games to participate in the Big10 Championship even if they win all the games they play. Right now the most they can play is 6 games, which is the min you can play and qualify.
So Kes are you pumped about this kid? Washington State true freshman quarterback Jayden de Laura will start the Cougars' opener Saturday against Oregon State, first-year coach Nick Rolovich announced Monday. De Laura beat out redshirt sophomore Cammon Cooper and redshirt freshman Gunner Cruz to earn the opportunity. He will be the first true freshman quarterback in school history to start an opener.
I wish I could be more positive about our chances to beat Clemson, but somehow I think it's going to be like that Alabama/Georgia game where we might stay with them for a half but then they come out and smoke us like Bama did to a very good Georgia team.
T - I'm really not excited about anything CFB this year, but as far as that goes, JDL shows a lot of promise.
Early on, he was reported to have been installing a Run and Shoot offense, which involves a much more balanced attached from the Air Raid. Borghi is an amazing talent, so putting the ball in his hands more often, as well as providing at least a question mark for defenders for what is coming, was viewed as a potential upgrade. Among the potential downsides are that amazing RBs are not an annual event at WSU, and OL play is sometimes not as reliable as you might believe from a perennial power like Washington State.
I didn't know that the NCAA had mandated this as a day off for college football. I had read that Kelly wasn't practicing the Irish today so the players could vote, but he also observed that most of them don't live in South Bend so that they voted absentee anyway. Then I read about it being NCAA wide and that a lot of coaches thought it unnecessary and more for show than anything else.
Players are still opting out for the season. Miss State RB, Kylin Hill has opted out and will enter the NFL draft. Pitt's starting safety, Paris Ford, has also opted out. It seems late in the season to do so, but I guess in this wacky year, players are still doing so once they see their team going no where and they'd rather not risk injury or Covid and just finish the semester and go to the NFL.
Scott, I worked at an en-route Air Traffic Control Facility in Houston in the late '70s and early '80s and the 3 busiest days of the year were the day before Thanksgiving, the opening of dove season in south Texas and the Offshore Oil Technology conference. Also seems like I remember the Bush's going dove hunting.
I see where Wisconsin has cancelled the Purdue game Saturday due to Covid testing on the part of the Badgers.
