Well there has been a lot of frustration with the NCAA that's for sure, so it's certainly possible. The biggest stumbling block is the basketball tournament. I don't think it'd be as interesting without the non power 5 programs. Villanova would no longer be eligible as the Big East isn't a Power 5 conference.

Some pretty good football teams would be on the outside looking in also, like UCF and I believe Houston. I hope it doesn't happen but sometimes the NCAA makes me nuts.

I don't think it'd be a big deal in football, those Group of 5 teams like UCF and Houston and others are pretty much left out of any chance at the playoffs. I don't think the Power 5 conferences breaking away would mean that Power 5 teams couldn't schedule them as non conference foes.

The other thing is that so many think that getting rid of the NCAA will solve all the problems, that we'll not have rules that seem stupid to most of us, that the investigations will be fair and impartial.

Careful what you wish for, how will the Power 5 replace the NCAA office? Will there be a new office implemented and staffed by the Power 5. Will there be a overall commissioner of the Power 5?

The NCAA has released it's guidelines for Fall Sports.

One of the things that caught my eye is that players can not be forced to sign a release form with regards to the virus as a condition of playing.

Also players have the right to opt out of playing and not lose their scholarship.

    ______________

All student-athletes will be given the opportunity to opt out of participation because of COVID-19 concerns without fear of losing their scholarships. Each division has until Aug. 14th to decide what athletes opting out or seasons being cut short because of COVID-19 will mean in terms of future eligibility and to make those athletes and families are aware of the impacts.

Schools cannot force a student-athlete to sign away any legal rights with regard to COVID-19 as a requirement to participate. Along with their exisiting insurance policies, schools will be required to cover any COVID-19 related medical expenses for student-athletes.

Agree with the scheduling Terry, but how about Bowl games? A number of those teams make it to bowl games every year.

I agree with your post below that we might be careful what we wish for.

It would appear to me that Holiday Bowl Games are going to be pretty much a thing of the past

It would appear to me the Holiday Bowl games will be pretty much eliminated within a few years.

Yeah I can't imagine many bowl games making it, we've had too many anyway.

Well it didn't take long, the NCAA left it up to each division on whether or not they would hold fall championships. Div II and Div III decided today that they would not be holding championships for any fall sport.

Also I had never heard of an organization called College Athlete Unity, but they seem to behind the Big 10 players. Here's a link to the Big 10 United site.

I haven't heard of them either Terry. What we don't need is boycotting players.
