Well things did get heated between the Dodgers and the Astros last night, benches were cleared but no punches were thrown. Astros Mgr Dusty Baker was livid though that nothing was done with Kelly, not even a warning after he threw behind Bregmans head on a 3-0 pitch. Dodgers won 5-2 +++++++++++++++ How or if Major League Baseball disciplines Kelly or the two teams will set something of a precedent for this pandemic-ravaged season. Social distancing was clearly ignored for more than a minute. “Players or managers who leave their positions to argue with umpires, come within six feet of an umpire or opposing player or manager for the purpose of argument, or engage in altercations on the field are subject to immediate ejection and discipline, including fines and suspensions,” the manual reads Astros insider: Dusty Baker decries Dodgers' 'dirty baseball'
Then there's the Irish Dodger... Joe Kelly is a local guy from Corona High School and UC Riverside. He's married to the daughter (Ashley Parks) of one of Corey's old teammates (Derek Parks.) By reputation he's the best fist fighter on the team and possibly the best in the National League. He's also a little touchy... He threw at two Stros, including a slider at the head, which (as every pitcher knows) is the kill pitch. The slider looks like a fastball, then breaks at the final instant. You never throw it high on purpose, because it's almost impossible for the batter to avoid... Kelly walked to the dugout blowing kisses to the Stros players as both teams ran out on the field, with the Dodger players yelling "cheaters!" "cheaters!" This morning's internet has exploded here with Dodger Dogs proclaiming "Joe Kelly is God!" It has begun...and I'm not sure that anything can stop it.
BTW Dusty Baker is also a local guy from Riverside. He was a Dodger hero as a player and is so highly respected here that he was even revered by the locals when he was managing the Giants. Hiring Dusty was a great move by the Astros to contain this furor...
Dusty has already been given a contract extension. I wasn't a fan of his hire though, but I'm glad to be wrong if he negotiates this season to the playoffs.
Really? That's just so funny. He was maybe one of the all-time worst at throwing out the 1st pitch! I wouldn't have even thought that somebody would make a baseball card out of it! But sold 50K.
The injustice done to Kelly has lit the fuse here in Los Angeles. There are proposals to put a statue of him next to Jackie Robinson; canonize him as a Catholic saint; hold parades in his honor etc. The entire internet Mexican army is mobilizing for war. When the Strohs travel here later this year, they will be met at the airport; on the freeway, at the hotel, and at the stadium coming and going. Even the broadcasters, Davis and Hershiser, openly joke on the air about what's going to happen when Houston comes to town... Once again the Strohs did something horrible and avoided all consequences. It's coming...
Phillies had a coach and a clubhouse person test positive. The BlueJays are in DC and will not go to Philly until MLB tells them it's OK, the weekend series with the Blue Jays is cancelled. I don't think we can get every team to 60 games.
Orel's snide remarks... Dodgers announcer Orel Hershiser shades Astros after strikeout: 'Guessing is harder than knowing'
That's funny...reminded me immediately of the old golfing "Gotcha" joke; Golf Joke Of The Day: Monday, September 12th
I hope they have better judgement in the future, if not baseball may have to shut down. MLB investigation finds Marlins players failed to follow coronavirus protocols on Atlanta trip, per report
I doubt if MLB is going to be able to have all the teams play 60 games. While doubleheaders will help make up some of the games missed, there will probably be too many for that to work for all the teams. I wonder if there will be a min number of games that a team must play to qualify for the playoffs?
Bill how are your fantasy leagues handling all these things? It would seem like it'd be hard when you have teams and players missing games.
Love the wording in the article that states that Marlin players violated baseball’s restrictions by “going out”. My guess is that “going out” is the sanitized version of “visited well known Atlanta strip clubs”.
Guess another game with the dirty birds is postponed. Would have thought the stuff Molina puts on a baseball to cause it to stick to his chest protector would also kill any Covid virus particles floating around in the dugout or clubhouse. Sources: More Cards positive, Saturday game off
Guess when the El Birdos visited MKE, some players decided to visit the local casino. Suspect they skipped the adult entertainment spots as the Wisconsin diet of cheese curds and beer results in our dancers having the physiques of NFL fullbacks
