I'm calling it... Clemson is dead! Joe Burrow proved he was the right choice for the Heisman. Too bad his reward will be the Bungles
I know the L$U faithful think their offense will plug and play with the next guy up. They are in for a rude awakening. Burrow was THE guy for them this year and it won't flow near as well for whoever that is.
AJ, Sorry I missed your call. I was watching the game and my daughter had my phone. She didn't tell me someone called until I went to put her in bed. LSU was just too much and had a magical year. They beat 6 top 10 teams or something like that? That's incredible.
Scott, I think you may be correct. It will be interesting.to see how both LSU and Alabama do next year. I have to say that LSU's defense improved greatly as the season went on. If that can be carried over it would make a.world of difference. Corey, LSU was tested.repeatedly throughout the season and kept winning. I think if a teams makes it through a tough schedule without significant injuries, then it pays off at the end of the year. The biggest factor last night was that Laurence had an off night and Burrow didn't. The LSU defense had a lot to do with that but he just wasn't as sharp as he was 2 weeks ago.
That LSU team will go down as one of the best teams in the last 50 years. As has been pointed out they handled a very difficult schedule with ease and got better as the year went on. Will be extremely difficult to duplicate that next year, Burrow was just so dominant all year, next guy up who ever that is will not likely be as good as Burrow was this year. But I imagine they will still win a lot of games. Watch out though for Texas pulling the upset in Baton Rouge.
OH I'm not saying LSU will be a cupcake next year, but the way Burrow understood that offense and directed it was a once in a generation thing. Kinda like how Johnny Football was for the Aggies. You don't catch that very often and better enjoy it while you have it. kp, it probably wasn't that Lawrence was off (he's never been as great as advertised IMHO) it's just that he isn't transcendent like the guy he was up against. Everybody looks "off" when the other guy is lighting it up almost at will.
A couple of other observations. All year everybody said LSU wasn't that good on defense, but that LSU defense looked very good, Queen looks like a star in the making. I don't understand pass interference. I don't understand that blindside block rule I don't understand targeting. I thought the key was did you hit the other guy in the helment, did you launch yourself at him. But the Clemson guy who clearly launched himself with the crown of his helmet at the Clemson player but hit him in the shoulder pads. But the rules expert said it was textbook targeting, any time you launch with the crown of your helmet, you could hit the guy in the thigh I think he said and it would be targeting.
I make no bones about being tickled to death that LSU really shot down Clemson. They were screaming about bad calls. Now they know what we felt like two weeks ago!
