I think 'previous wins' clearly influences the polls and has since we've started the playoff format. That old BCS mindset is still deeply ingrained in the mindset of the pollsters. We can't go to an 8 team playoff fast enough. Until we do, and considering all of the "ND doesn't belong in the playoffs because they were blown out by Clemson, but pay no attention to Alabama getting smoked behind the curtain" attention ND received this year, I don't ever want to see OU near the playoffs again. That ND game was something like 9-3 at the half or something like that and it got ugly late. Oklahoma lost every damn thing including the coin toss tonight. They were literally blown right out of the stadium. What's worse, is they are continually getting smoked. The year they didn't get smoked, they had a historic collapse against Georgia.
Ok.Corey so Oklahoma's continually losing should be considered but if.you win consistently it shouldn't be considered?
Every season is a new deal. That's true in all sports. Next years teams should be judged on what they do next year, not what they've done in the past.
Oh my god...4 plays 89 yds. Clemson takes the lead. Clemson going for 2, not sure why. If they make it a TD still wins it for OSU, if they don't make OSU still can't win with FG. I don't get it. But they make it and it's 29-23
Well Clemson gets the endzone pick and that's the ball game. Clemson did stay aggressive on defense. FWIW. I think Ohio State was the better team, but they made critical mistakes that cost them the game
Clemson is sneaky good.... that Etienne is a beast and I had no idea that Lawrence could run like that and their defense is solid.... and will get their chance to shine or fail vs. one of the best offenses ever in the title game.
Coach Lea needs a pay raise NOW! Make this young man happy before some other school starts throwing money his way. He has more than proven himself.
Just looking at the rankings, I seriously doubt the Irish can move up any higher than #13 from our pre-bowl ranking of #15. We probably jump UM if they lose to Alabama, questionable if we jump Alabama if they lose to Michigan. We could end up right where we started.
All eyes will be on Phil and the Transfer Portal. Truthfully though, if he transfers he has to sit out and wait a year so he's not playing at all in 2020, if he stays at ND he could at least have the possibility that he would play some, you know injury and maybe if we have a game in hand he gets playing time late in games. Heck in 2018 , Book was injured and Wimbush ended up starting the FSU game. Then in 2021 he could be the starter at ND, and that would be the earliest he could play if he transferred. But if he's just frustrated with his situation, with the coaching staff and his development then he might just leave to go someplace not only where he could start in 2021 but also feel like he's getting better coaching and development. I just hope he doesn't pull a Golson and go through Spring drills and eat up reps from the other QB's and then bail after the Spring. Go now or stay and be committed.
Everybody is of course waiting to see about coaching changes. OCoord? Quinn to be retained? Any other changes? Todd Lyght? Lyght is being painted as a reluctant recruiter and why we have a hole in the DB in terms of talent, a lot of fans hope he moves on.
I've said this before, and I'll say this again, for all the great QBs that ND has ever had, the greatest season was had by a guy who simply waited his turn for his one shot at being the starting QB.
I think there are too many guys that think that patience is not a virtue but rather a weakness. It works out for some and not for others.
Yeah Kevin McDougal had a great Senior year. He was a very good fit for that offense. But back then there wasn't near the transfer mania that there is today.
Well either Kelly really is the biggest idiot ever to blow into a whistle, or PJ isn't ready yet. How have all our transfer QBs worked out at their new homes?
