I think LSU is a lock for one of the four spots even with a loss to Georgia! Georgia fans will be very upset if that occurs. Seems to me like the playoff committee has too much leeway in their decisions?

As has been pointed out by Tim Tebow, the Committee has been inconsistent. Do they want the most deserving or the 4 best teams. Does the eye test mean more than the on the field results?

Undefeated team that has played a lot of close games vs a 1 loss team that has blown out their opponents but stumbled once

Terry, do you really think an undefeated team will be outside the top 4? I think the controversy will be amongst the 1 lossers.

Tebow said ND was a deserving team last season but not one of the best 4. He said that is the problem

This year if either LSU or Ohio State get upset and Utah and OU (or Baylor) win impressively in their Conference Championship games. As Conference Champions they would be deserving... but would they be one of the 4 best

What if Clemson loses? In view of their schedule would they be one of 4 best teams in the country? I know, I know but it's possible!

Assuming that the favorites win this week, Georgia stands to lose the most in my opinion. Utah or some other team will replace Georgia. Make it relative easy for the committee.

No chance that OSU or Clemson gets upset.

I could see Georgia beating LSU.... very possible and then what? LSU probably would beat either Utah or Oklahoma so do the Tigers get in with a loss in Atlanta?
The committee is going to be cheering for LSU to make their job easy.

MCG, of course, my question was a "what if". What if LSU loses and what if Clemson loses? Does either get bumped out or neither get bumped out? Also of course if UGA loses they are out but if they win I think their resume is as good as anyone's and would make the committee's job a no-win situation.

Until they expand the playoffs this is going to be an annual problem. If UGA upsets LSU then that's where that old deserving vs best team comes into play. As 1 loss conference champions both Utah (should they win) and either Baylor or OU (esp OU) would be deserving. We've had teams, like Ohio State and Alabama who were 1 loss playoff teams who did not play in their conference Championship game. But we've never had a Conference Championship game loser make the playoffs. Georgia if they lose to LSU in a close game, might be a better team than Utah, but I don't think a 2 loss conference championship loser should trump a 1 loss Conference Championship game winner. But then what about the best 4 teams should be in, it's a conundrum for sure.

Georgia does not get get in with two losses in my opinion.
And they wouldn’t deserve to over a one loss Utah or OU.

That's the rub isn't it. I agree a 2 loss Championship game loser doesn't deserve to be in the CFP. But if UGA played OU or Utah on a neutral field who would be favored?

Yeah I think the 2 loss threshold should not be dropped. The season has to mean something and the resume of UGA, and OU and Baylor are all close. Actually they are also all better than Clemson's

My thought exactly. Thus, I'm pulling a Corey (contrarian) and hoping that all the favorites are upset and that the system is thrown into chaos.

No real surprises in the ESPN CFP coverage at noon today. LSU #1, Ohio #2 Clemson#3 and Oklahoma #4. You have three undefeated teams and one with one loss. Any given day or night any of the teams could beat one another. One thing for sure there will not be over maybe one undefeated in the end.

Oregon has to be kicking themselves in the ass this afternoon. They were leading Auburn for something like 58 minutes before coughing up the game in the final minute. They coughed up a game against Arizona State. They literally have no one to blame but themselves. At least they'll get to play a very good Wisconsin team in the Rose Bowl though.

Texas vs Utah in the Alamo Bowl. An opportunity for the Longhorns. No player defections as yet.

Utah though will have full staff and some motivation after losing to Oregon, Longhorns will be short staffed after the firings last week. Of course being so close is probably a plus for the Longhorns.
