I've been watching the US Senior Open at the Warren golf course. ND has been getting a lot of exposure during the tournament. Looking like Steve Stricker is going to win handily. I've played the course with gipper on one of my football trips. It had to be 15 years or so since we played. I am pretty sure gipper schooled me!
You're right about the exposure Terry. Besides a playoff football season, we had the Garth Brooks concert, this golf tournament and in 3 weeks Liverpool will be playing Borussia Dortmund at ND stadium. Someone's doing a great job in the PR department.
The HS event of the summer is the Opening Finals and the Elite 11 Finals. They went on over the weekend and we had several players there. The most prominent was 2020 QB Drew Pyne who was reportedly the 5th ranked QB of the Elite 11. 1. Hayes King (Uncommitted/ Texas A&M-Tennessee leaders as of now) 2. Hudson Card (Texas) 3. Bryce Young (USC) 4. Harrison Bailey (Tennessee) 5. Drew Pyne (ND) From what I've read Drew is very athletic, not Justin Fields athletic, but more like Ian Book. He is also a very accurate passer, but has to work on his down the field throws. He's only 17 so hopefully he'll get better and will develop a stronger and more accurate arm to stretch the field.
Matt Freeman of ISD posted this on his twitter feed of Chris Tyree doing a drill. He also ran a 4.37 Forty at the Opening. The kid has got "it"...hopefully he can make "it" happen at ND.
Win some lose some. Irish lost out on a DL to Ohio State this week when Mitchell Melton picked the Buckeyes over Notre Dame and Michigan. But rebounded to pickup Caleb Offord a CB from Mississippi. That leaves us at 16 verbals with most predicting we'll take around 20 or 21 kids this year. Today's recruiting wish is on Nebraska's Xavier Watt's who will announce today between Neb and Notre Dame. If we get him we're done at WR. We are mainly looking for safety's right now. There won't be any LB's in this group, we're done at TE, QB, RB, OL.
Don this class will be good, but it will still fall short of the type of talent that Alabama and Clemson will bring in for 2020. Buckeyes are closer than we are.
Watts will be one of those kids we need to keep an eye on, as I doubt is Scott Frost will give up on him. He will continue to try recruit him till he signs a LOI.
Looks like Winbush will be the starter this fall due to an ankle injury from last season's Qb for Central Florida: UCF QB Darriel Mack Jr. suffers broken ankle, Brandon Wimbush likely starter for the Knights
I saw that Don, UCF has a bad streak going, with Milton having that severe injury and then Daryl Mack who looked OK but not great filled in pretty well. Now it's Wimbush and a RS freshman. I hope Brandon has a great year, he's a terrific young man and deserves the success, but I'm just not sure he's a real good Div 1 QB. We'll see what the UCF staff can do with him though.
It's being widely rumored that Link Jarrett, the UNC-Greensboro baseball coach will be the next coach at Notre Dame. He had a great college career at Fla. State, and while not an A lister in terms of resume' he seems to have done a good job at UNCG and probably is the best we were going to get at this time. Now the AD has to step up and give him the support he'll need to turn around this program. The delay in announcing it is reportedly the excessive background checking that ND does now since O'Leary scammed them.
Impressive Resume "linked" below. Not sure who we could have convinced to come north who would have had a better record building programs toward success. I hope he can continue the pattern at ND.
