All we know about the Urias situation is this:

    1. He was in a shopping mall with his wife/girlfriend.
    2. They had an argument and he pushed her down.
    3. She refused to file a complaint.
    4. Other shoppers filed a complaint and he spent the night in jail.

    - That's where we are in the story right now.

Astros have been on a tear lately, just bashing teams like the Rangers and the Tigers.

The Astros have a team OPS of .868. Since 1920 there have been only two other teams to finish the season with a better number, the 1927 and 1930 Yankees, both at .872. 110 of 263 (42%) hitters in the Hall of Fame had a career OPS lower than what the Astros are hitting as a team.

Some names of Hall of Famers that had a lower career OPS than what the Astros are hitting as an entire team right now (.868): Honus Wagner (.858) Rickey Henderson (.820) Carl Yastrzemski (.841) Cal Ripken Jr. (.788) Wade Boggs (.858) Reggie Jackson (.846) Tony Gwynn (.847)

I don't expect this to continue, but it's fun while it lasts.

Oh yeah and Vlad Jr got untracked and hit a couple of bombs at Oracle....kid can hit for power that's for sure. It'll be interesting to see how this season unwinds for the rookie who is not yet 21.

Dodgers are the first to win 30 games with their 5th shutout in the last 9 games...

Can somebody explain to me why when a pitcher tosses a ball in the dirt or there is a foul tip into the dirt they take the ball out of play. But if he hits a scorcher to short, one hop, throw to 1st to make the out they keep the ball in play.

What I am reading says that it keeps pitchers from deliberately scuffing the ball...and also that the dirt at home plate is usually packed tighter than the rest of the field. The batter or pitcher can request a new ball at any time and usually will be granted the request.

10 dozen balls are used on average per game.....No wonder ticket prices keep going higher....picky bastards.

No, there are different makes of baseball for the different levels. They have different seams basically.

I've never heard of this auction. I wonder where it is publicised?

But this was what I was wondering.

I'm not sure I'm buying that the dirt around home plate is so different, that a scorching 1 hopper to the infield isn't similarly affected, certainly that line drive off the Green Monster or any other non-padded outfield wall either. But they are kept in play. Oh well I wonder how much money they can make off of these auctions and do they give it to a worthy charity? It seems like they should.

I found this after reading Stu's link. Confirms what Corey said.

Article also said a brand new unrubbed MLB baseball is too dangerous for a MLB pitcher to throw!

Thought we were going to have a Justin Verlander no hitter last night...but 1 missed pitch and good bye! Still won the game and he's been pitching very well lately. I've noticed that he tends to give up the gopher ball in almost every game, he'll be going great and then boom somebody knocks it out of the park. Astros pitching is undergoing some changes with McHugh going on the IL and we're bringing up a guy from the AAA club. Beyond Verlander and Cole, it's starter by committee. I wonder if we'll add a 1 and done in a trade before the deadline.

Of course if we keep hitting it won't matter that much. Right now our run differential is +99, closest in MLB is the Twins at +81. Dodgers are the tops in the NL at +69.

We got our first look at Tampa Bay last night. What a sick franchise! The stadium is empty! They need to move that team to Las Vegas ASAP...

When the Astros were there the attendance reminded me of the days when you could count the Marlins fans in the stands on one hand. The Rays though a really good team, they deserve more attention from the fans in Tampa Bay. I saw an article somewhere on the top minor league prospects and the Rays had quite a few. Is Las Vegas trying to lure them? Are they looking to move, usually the prelude to that is a fight with local govt over building a new stadium for the team.

I'm pretty sure Las Vegas would build them a new stadium. They have people, money and a ton of land there.
