It's hard to gauge the guy when he plays in so many run happy offenses. To be honest, if we had to 'settle' for Hart, I'd be just fine with it.
After reading several interviews with Hart, it seems pretty clear that he, like most of us, has matured as he has aged and he now regrets some of the things he said when he was a cocky 20-year-old. As a player, he was not a coveted recruit but overachived and became a standout player. Overachievers usually are smart, driven, and hard working which are traits that one wants in a coach. There are more than a few M fans who would like to see him return to AA but Harbaugh's son in presently our RB coach.
Well it is apparently Lance Taylor who coached Bryce Love and Christian McCaffrey at Stanford who will be the new Irish RB coach. He left Stanford for the Carolina Panthers and they parted ways after this season. He reportedly is a very good recruiter and having done a good job at Stanford you know he's familiar with academics. So I think most are pretty happy with the hire, time will tell though on whether is is a great hire. He'll have to go through the HR/vetting process at ND which seems to take longer than most schools, maybe still trying to make up for George O'Leary. Basketball was not good this weekend. UVA destroyed the Men with Duke up next and looking like another beat down. The #1 ranked Women were beaten at Chapel Hill by a pedestrian UNC team that was 11-9, they were missing Jackie Young but still should have been able to handle UNC. Doubtful that we'll have a 3rd bite at being ranked #1 this season now. We will also need to finish strong and win the ACC and maybe the tourney as well to get a #1 seed. We'll be back on the road Thurs at Clemson. Hockey beat MSU 6-3 on Friday and then skated to a 1-1 Tie on Saturday. That leaves us in 2nd place behind Ohio State and just a point ahead of Minnesota.
Watched the 1st half of the Duke/ND game...Duke has a lot of freshmen who will be in the NBA next year, Zion Williamson is a man amongst boys. Our freshmen look like freshmen. I see that ND is closed for today and through thursday due to the Polar Vortex. From what I read that doesn't happen very often! I hope the heating works well in the dorms!
As we approach the official end of 2019 recruiting, not much is going to change. The Irish likely to finally get DE Isiah Foskey from Concord De La Salle, but not Asa Turner the LB from Carlsbad CA. Very good class in the end, not Alabama great but still a good class esp at OL. RB could have used another good one, but the one we got has a lot of potential.
Irish Women try to get back on track with another road game at Clemson. The Tigers are a solid but not great team, but they are better than the UNC team that upset us last weekend. No word on whether or not Jackie Young will play tonight. She was sorely missed v UNC and will be again tonight. But we should still be able to handle Clemson without her, the other 4 starters are all AA candidates. What is needed is for the young freshmen/sophs to step up and take up the slack.
Tim must be on Vacation!! German DE Alex Ehrensberger for the 2020 class has given his verbal. He's rated a 3 star, but has a lot of upside and you know the staff thought highly enough of him to send Mike Elston on a recruiting trip to Germany to get the verbal. Naturally people having a lot of fun with him being German, he'll be a good blitzer, etc! Irish Women bounced back solidly last night against a good Clemson team and buried them with a 30+ point blowout win. Next up is a Sunday match up at home v Ga.Tech. Irish Men face Boston College at BC tomorrow, not sure what to think here. Irish beat them at home but they gave up a solid lead in the end and barely got the win. 69-66. Hockey is at Big1O leader Ohio State, tonight and tomorrow night. A split here would be huge!
Irish Hockey lost 2-0 to B1G leader Ohio State who swept us this weekend in Columbus. Buckeyes are clear #1 in the B1G standings with the rest of us bunched up pretty closely. Irish Men finish off BC for a close win and ending our losing streak. Irish Women are home to Ga. Tech today. It should be another win for them. Hopefully they get some of the young bench players some good playing time to help them develop.
Irish women rout Ga Tech 90-50. Might have cost Mikayla Vaughn though she left the game with another injury to the knee she tore her ACL last year.
Irish Basketball will be in Miami this week, the Men will be in Coral Gables on Wed and the Women will be there on Thursday. Hockey gets the week off.
