that looked like Brewers fans watching the game from their home stadium. The 1982 AL Champions were the Brewers. So it looks like some Brewer fans having fun at the expense of the Cubs tradition.
Terry, Here is a wikipedia article explaining the history of the W and L flags flown over Wrigley Field: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cubs_Win_Flag AJ, Picture of the giant L flag was taken was taken at Miller Park several weeks ago after a Brewers win. Drunk Cubby fans swarm to Miller when we play them so few creative Brewers fans came up with this hospitable idea to thank them for visiting.
From the link: On April 23, 2008 the Cubs won for the 10,000th time in the history of the franchise on the road against the Colorado Rockies.[32] Too funny. Too Ironic.
OK it does look like that was Brewers fans at their stadium. And I had no idea before now that the Cubs have a history with the W and L flags...I just knew about the goat!
Cardinals make a big acquisition in Goldschmidt. I wonder if they will become a player for Bryce Harper. Astros haven't done anything really big, they did make a deal with Robinson Chirinos the Texas Ranger catcher. It's a 1 year deal, so we'll see. Max Stassi was the only catcher on the roster with MLB experience, beat writers think they will add another catcher sometime before the Spring. Some talk that the 'Stros will try to add Nathan Evoaldi to the staff to replace the likely to be departing Dallas Keuchel. Also unlikely Marwin Gonzalez will be returning. He's been a valuable player for the team but it's about money I guess and they have prospects in the system who are ready to move up and take his place.
I hear the Dodgers are making a play for Harper despite the fact that many Dodger fans don't want him.
Every time I post something on Facebook, all the Dodger dogs come out to say they don't want Harper. They want pitching. Don't be shocked to see the Dodgers trade Puig for one of the outstanding trio of Indian pitchers and some change. Then make a strong move for Harper. Of course, the Dodger dogs don't like that idea either even though Harper is younger, less of a headache and a left handed bomb machine.
Carlos Carrasco signs a contract extension with the Indians. Keeps him in the fold through at least 2022.
I understand this is the way of the baseball world...money talks... But feels like the Tribe is a developmental league for the big boys with more money. Maybe we can pick up some great prospects for Kluber or Bauer...then get some great years out of them before we pass them on to NY, Boston, or LA. That's been the Indians' strategy and they've done pretty well with it. https://www.cleveland.com/tribe/2018/12/cleveland-indians-address-tomorrow-with-carlos-carrasco-extension-but-still-could-trade-corey-kluber-or-trevor-bauer.html
This is outrageous nonsense. Baines was only half as good as the other DH under consideration: Edgar Martinez. On regular HOF ballots, the most votes he ever received was 6%. If the Old Timers Committee wanted to elect a great hitter who was a lousy fielder, why not Steve Garvey? He batted 20 points higher than Baines, made TEN All-Star teams, and several World Series... Lee Smith was just an average player. Can anyone believe that he's in the HOF and pitchers like Orel Hershiser, Tommy John, and Jim Kaat are not? What were they thinking?
Baines was a good ball player who had a long career. HOF? No way. Did anyone ever pitch around Harold Baines? Did not bat .300. Did not have 400 Hrs. Did not have 3000 hits. I didn't think Lee Smith deserved it either. Look at his last five years; basically got paid to do nothing. Neither of them had any post season chops either.
